President Donald Trump left the G7 Summit early on Monday, while urging everyone in Tehran to evacuate. Here’s where and what to know about the annual summit meeting.

The G7 Summit is an international forum held annually for the leaders from the world’s seven largest advanced economies that gather to discuss and potentially agree on common approaches to global challenges and policy.

This year’s summit was overshadowed by the Iran-Israel conflict, with leaders, including Trump, signing a statement urging a “de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza” prior to Trump’s early departure.

As he left, Trump told reporters: “I have to be back early for obvious reasons.” According to reports, he had instructed the White House National Security Council to meet upon his return.

Trump’s early exit also means he will miss in-person meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum that were scheduled for Tuesday.

The seven member states are Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. The European Union is also a key participant.

This year’s event extended invitations to Australia, Brazil, India, Mexico, South Africa, South Korea, Ukraine and international organizations: NATO, United Nations, and World Bank. Invited countries not attending were Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
