Police are seeking a man considered armed and dangerous after two police officers were shot while responding to a domestic assault call at an apartment in Virginia where a woman was found with gunshot wounds, authorities said.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she died from her injuries, police said.

Shaun M. Boker, 39, is being sought for questioning in connection with the shootings, police said.

Officers from the Chesapeake Police Department responded on Wednesday to a report of domestic assault at approximately 10:30 p.m. at an apartment in the 500 block of Willow Bridge Court, according to a statement from the department.

“Upon arrival, officers heard a woman inside the residence screaming for help,” police said. “As officers attempted to breach the front door to render aid, an unknown suspect began shooting at them through the door from inside the apartment. Two officers were struck by gunfire.”

The injuries the two officers suffered on the scene are believed to be non-life-threatening and they were taken to hospital for treatment.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the woman but did say that Boker is considered armed and dangerous.
