🔴 Official: Liverpool Sign German Star Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in Major Summer Transfer
Liverpool FC have completed the high-profile signing of German playmaker Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, marking a major addition to Arne Slot’s squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has signed a long-term contract with the Reds after agreeing personal terms and successfully passing his medical on Merseyside.
Wirtz reunites with his former Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong, becoming the club’s latest summer signing under new head coach Arne Slot.
🗣 Florian Wirtz: “A New Adventure Begins”
Speaking to LiverpoolFC.com following the announcement, Wirtz shared his excitement:
“I feel very happy and very proud. I was waiting for a long time – finally it’s done, and I am really happy. I’m really excited for this new adventure. Leaving the Bundesliga and joining the Premier League is a big step for me.”
“I talked to players who have played here. They said the Premier League suits my style perfectly. I’m looking forward to my first game in a Liverpool shirt.”
🌟 One of World Football’s Brightest Talents
Wirtz arrives after a stellar five-year spell at Bayer Leverkusen, where he rose to international stardom. He made his Bundesliga debut at just 17 years old and quickly established himself as a key player, even scoring against Bayern Munich in his debut season.
Despite suffering a serious injury in 2022, Wirtz bounced back to help Leverkusen achieve a historic league and cup double in the 2023–24 season and reach the Europa League final—going unbeaten in the Bundesliga.
In the 2024–25 campaign, he continued to impress on the European stage, scoring six goals in nine Champions League appearances.
Internationally, the German star has already earned 31 caps and scored 7 goals for the national team, including standout performances at Euro 2024.
🏆 Ambition to Win It All
Wirtz has his eyes set on silverware at Anfield:
“I want to win everything—Premier League, Champions League, all of it. Last season, Liverpool won the league, and I want to help win it again. I’m really ambitious and ready to give everything.”
📅 What’s Next?
Wirtz will join up with his new teammates in July for pre-season training. His official Liverpool squad number will be announced in the coming weeks.
