Actor and first-time director James McAvoy was unexpectedly sucker-punched by an intoxicated man at Toronto’s Charlotte’s Room bar on Monday, Sept. 8, while celebrating the premiere of his directorial debut, “California Schemin’.” The 46-year-old X-Men and Split star was caught off guard, but unharmed, and reportedly laughed off the incident while others helped remove the man from the establishment. McAvoy continued enjoying the evening with producers and friends. His film, based on the Scottish hip-hop duo Silibil N’ Brains, debuted at TIFF on Sept. 6, marking a successful transition from acting to directing. Watch.
