England have recalled 35-year-old Liam Dawson to replace the injured Shoaib Bashir, who has been ruled out of the Test series after sustaining a broken finger during England’s 22-run win over India at Lord’s in the third Test.England are leading the five-match Test series 2-1. The fourth Test will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester, starting from July 23.Left-arm spinner Dawson last played a Test for England in July 2017. He has been a consistent performer for Hampshire over several years and was named PCA Player of the Year in both 2023 and 2024.“Liam Dawson deserves his call-up. He has been in outstanding form in the County Championship and consistently puts in strong performances for Hampshire,” said Luke Wright, England men’s national selector.Dawson has played just three Tests, in 2016 and 2017, but has 371 first-class wickets to go with 18 centuries.
