MOHALI: YouTuber Jasbir Singh, accused of spying for Pakistan, was sent to a two-day police remand by a Mohali court on Saturday. A resident of Mehlan village in Ropar district, Jasbir Singh was produced before the court by the Punjab Police’s State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) after completing an earlier three-day remand. The SSOC sought an extension of seven days, citing the need to seize Singh’s laptop and extract further information regarding his alleged links to a spy network. The government prosecutor told the court that further digital evidence was likely to emerge and needed examination to trace the full extent of the alleged espionage. However, Jasbir Singh’s legal counsel contested the police claims, asserting that his client had been falsely implicated. The defence argued that Singh had initially been summoned through a formal notice and had fully cooperated with the police during two days of questioning. It was only afterwards, the lawyer said, that the police arrested him and labelled him a spy without solid grounds. After considering the arguments presented by both sides, the court ordered a two-day police remand, rejecting the SSOC’s request for a longer duration.Sources close to the investigation have revealed that Jasbir Singh was arrested in connection with an ongoing probe into espionage activities allegedly linked to Pakistan. The inquiry reportedly uncovered his contact with YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, previously arrested from Haryana, and a dismissed Pakistani government official identified as Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish.Jasbir Singh came under police scrutiny following the release of a collaborative video with Jyoti Malhotra on his YouTube channel. Investigators are now examining the extent and nature of his association with Malhotra and Danish, and whether sensitive information may have been shared. As the investigation continues, the case has drawn public attention due to the involvement of social media figures and the serious nature of the charges. The matter is scheduled for further hearing after the remand period ends.
