Shubman Gill’s dismissal on Day 1 of the 4th Test between India and England at Old Trafford sparked a wave of trolling on social media, with many fans comparing it to Karun Nair’s infamous “leave” in the last Test match at Lord’s. Gill, who is captaining India, made a costly error in judgment against Ben Stokes’s clever angles, leading to an LBW dismissal that left fans stunned. In the 50th over, Stokes bowled a delivery that angled in sharply. Gill, expecting the ball to move away, offered no shot, only for the ball to crash into his front pad. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. It was not even close to “umpire’s call,” confirming that Gill’s misjudgement had cost him dearly. He walked back for a disappointing 12 off 23 balls, with just one boundary to his name. The incident quickly went viral, with fans mocking Gill’s decision to leave such a threatening delivery. Phrases like “worse than Karun Nair’s last Test leave” started trending, as social media drew parallels between Gill’s error and Nair’s ill-fated misjudgement years ago.

Despite Gill’s dismissal, India finished Day 1 at 149/3 after 52 overs, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (58) and KL Rahul (46) providing a solid platform at the top before falling to Liam Dawson and Chris Woakes, respectively. Sai Sudharsan (26*) and Rishabh Pant (3*) were at the crease at Tea break, looking to build on the foundation laid earlier.Gill’s wicket, however, remains one of the biggest talking points of the day. With England’s bowlers exploiting the Old Trafford conditions, India will need their skipper to bounce back strongly in the second innings to silence the critics.
