    • Her husband called her “humorless” for leaving the party
    • Reddit users in the forum, “Am I the A——?,” came to the woman’s defense and said her husband is “cruel”

A woman is left wondering if she was in the wrong for leaving her husband’s birthday party after he pulled an insensitive prank.

A 28-year-old Reddit user turned to the popular forum, “Am I the A——?,” for advice on a party blunder.

She wrote that she organized a steakhouse birthday party for her 31-year-old husband and invited 10 friends and family members. At the dinner, she started to give a toast but he interrupted. “I barely got two sentences in before he cuts me off and says, ‘You know what would really make this birthday better? If [my name] finally admitted she’s pregnant.’” she explained. “I just stared at him. I’m not pregnant. I’m not even trying to be. He KNOWS I’m sensitive about this because I had a miscarriage in March.”

The Redditor said that her mother-in-law started tearing up and her boss stood up to congratulate them. When she asked her husband, “What the hell are you doing?” he laughed it off and said it was a prank.

The user left the party immediately. “I paid the bill via the app from my car, texted everyone that the night was over, and told my husband he could Uber home,” she retold.

“When he did get back, he called me humorless, said I humiliated him on his birthday, and now even his family is saying I was ‘cold’ to him over a ‘harmless joke.’ He says I embarrassed him by walking out and that I made everyone uncomfortable. I think he humiliated me first,” she concluded.

Users nearly unanimously sided with the poster. “It’s not a joke he’s insensitive and cruel. He knew the pregnancy announcement will hit a nerve, he embarrassed himself and ruined his own celebration,” one person commented and one user said, “It’s the cruelty for me. Miscarriage is so painful. Her husbands lack of basic human decency and consideration is astounding.” Another person wrote that the stunt was not a prank but a “public emotional sabotage.”
