When Sushmita Sen recalled Salman Khan encouraging her to wear heels despite being significantly shorter than her: 'He said, 'I’ll manage my height, you manage yours''
Sushmita Sen fondly recalls her time filming with Salman Khan, particularly on David Dhawan’s set where she was asked to wear flats. Salman, however, encouraged her to wear heels, a gesture Sushmita saw as progressive and supportive. She also shared anecdotes about Salman’s on-set pranks and the unscripted origin of her iconic “haye mera bachcha” line from Biwi No 1.

Sushmita Sen and Salman Khan have shared a strong bond over the years, both on and off screen. Reflecting on their camaraderie, Sushmita recently revealed a lesser-known but endearing detail from their filming days. She shared that while working on a film directed by David Dhawan, she was often asked to wear flats to match Salman’s height. But it was Salman who encouraged her to wear heels instead, showing no insecurity and fully supporting her confidence. Sushmita called this gesture “progressive” and praised Salman for his secure and appreciative attitude—a trait she deeply admired.A Fond Memory from the Sets of Biwi No 1In a conversation with Mashable India, Sushmita shared a fond memory from the sets of Biwi No 1. She recalled how director David Dhawan would often ask her to avoid wearing heels. Respecting the direction, she would show up in flats—until Salman Khan stepped in. Noticing her footwear, he encouraged her to wear heels and told her not to worry about his height. Sushmita appreciated this gesture and called it a reflection of Salman’s progressive attitude—something she has always admired about him.Salman’s On-Set Pranks That Leave Everyone LaughingThe actress also shared another lighthearted memory from working with Salman. She revealed that he has a habit of cracking unexpected jokes right in the middle of a scene, often leaving his co-actors struggling to stay in character. His impeccable comic timing, she said, would catch everyone off guard and have them bursting into laughter, completely derailing the scene.Iconic Unscriped Moment in Biwi No 1: ‘Haye Mera Bachcha’Sushmita and Salman have shared screen space in popular films like Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, Tumko Naa Bhool Payenge, and Biwi No 1. It was in Biwi No 1, where Sushmita played Salman’s on-screen girlfriend, that her iconic dialogue “haye mera bachcha” became a fan favorite. Interestingly, this memorable line wasn’t part of the script. In a past interview, Sushmita revealed that she believed the scene had ended and spontaneously pulled Salman in for a hug while saying the phrase in her own playful lingo. But the cameras were still rolling, and director David Dhawan decided to keep the unscripted moment in the final cut.
