'We don’t need Sunjay Kapur’s money': Karisma Kapoor’s father Randhir Kapoor once said he never approved of their marriage

Veteran actor Randhir Kapoor once revealed that he was strongly against the idea of his daughter Karisma Kapoor marrying industrialist Sunjay Kapur. He made it very clear that the Kapoor family did not need Sunjay’s money to survive or succeed.‘We don’t need to run after anyone’s money’Back in 2016, In an interview with Hindustan Times, Randhir Kapoor openly criticised his daughter’s ex-husband and cleared the air about rumours surrounding Karisma’s divorce from Sunjay Kapur. “Everyone knows our credentials. We are Kapoors. We don’t need to run after anyone’s money. We have been blessed with not only money, but our talent can support us for the rest of our lives,” Randhir said. The statement came after claims were made suggesting Karisma married Sunjay for his money.‘I never wanted Karisma marrying him’Randhir also didn’t hide his disapproval of the match from the very beginning. He added, “I never wanted Karisma marrying him. He never cared for his wife. He has been giving bull**** to her and living with another woman. The entire Delhi knows how he is. I would not like to say anything more than this.”Karisma and SunjayKarisma Kapoor married industrialist Sunjay Kapur in 2003, and the couple had two children—daughter Samaira and son Kiaan. However, their relationship began to fall apart, and in 2014, they filed for divorce. The split quickly became headline news due to the bitter mudslinging and serious accusations from both sides. Several shocking claims about their troubled marriage surfaced during the proceedings. After a long legal battle, Karisma and Sunjay’s divorce was finally settled and legally finalised in 2016.What their children gotAs part of the divorce settlement, their two children—Samaira and Kiaan—also received financial security. A 2016 ANI report stated that Sunjay bought bonds worth Rs 14 crore for the kids. These bonds came with an annual interest of Rs 10 lakh. He also transferred ownership of a house, previously owned by his father, to Karisma.Sunjay Kapur’s wealthAt the time of his passing in June 2025, Sunjay Kapur had built an enormous empire. According to Forbes, his estimated net worth was around $1.2 billion (Rs 10,300 crore). He officially joined the ranks of the World’s Billionaires in 2022.Most of his fortune came from Sona Comstar, a major automobile component manufacturer based in Gurugram. The company operates 12 factories and employs over 5,000 people across India, China, Mexico, Serbia, and the United States. Sunjay took charge of the business after the death of his father, Dr Surinder Kapur, in 2015. Under his leadership, the company saw massive growth, especially in the electric vehicle space.
