UPDATE, 3:01 p.m.: Karen Read acquitted in death of Boston police officer boyfriend
The jury in the Karen Read retrial reached a verdict on Wednesday, its fourth day of deliberations.
The jury deliberated for a total of about 22 hours before returning a verdict. Jurors are returning to the courtroom and will read the verdict aloud in court.
The verdict comes after a brief mix-up where jurors said they had reached a verdict, only to reverse course.
Read, 45, is charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident causing injury or death.
She is accused of ramming her Lexus SUV into her boyfriend, Boston Police officer John O’Keefe, outside the Canton home of another officer. Read and her lawyers have said she was framed and O’Keefe was beaten to death inside the home.
