Update: The Elden Ring Nightreign Duos mod from the creator of Seamless Co-op is already available to download and play

5/30/25: Well that didn’t take long at all. We reported this morning that modder Yui of Seamless Co-op fame already had a Nightreign prototype in the works, one that would most notably allow for two-player co-op in addition to triples and solo. Now it’s already up and available for download on the Elden Ring Nightreign Nexus. We’ll be checking it out ourselves to see how Yui’s effort improves on FromSoft’s co-op-focused roguelike.

Original Story: FromSoftware, I love thee dearly—but I think we can all agree that your multiplayer elements are always a little goofy. In the Dark Souls games and Elden Ring, the laborious process of summoning phantoms to your world is kinda part of the charm: a diegetic way to invite spirits beyond the rift into your RPG.

Elden Ring Nightreign, on the other hand, has straight-up matchmaking. And even then, FromSoftware found a way to make it more complex than it needs to be, with two-player games completely overlooked because of reasons, I guess.
