    'Thug Life' Karnataka ban row: Karnataka gov assures security, SC to decide

    The Karnataka government has filed an official affidavit before the Supreme Court, assuring that it will uphold law and order and ensure the peaceful release of Kamal Haasan’s film ‘Thug Life’ in the state. Emphasizing its commitment to protect the rights of all stakeholders, the state assured the court that no party would be denied proper opportunity. This response is amid growing stress around the release of the film, especially in Karnataka where the screening was stopped due to protests.Supreme Court to hear the matter on ThursdayAccording to IANS, the matter is set to be heard by the Supreme Court later on Thursday, with the bench expected to take note of the state’s assurance. The court’s hearing comes at a critical juncture, especially with fans and distributors awaiting a resolution. With the Karnataka government’s latest submission, hopes are high that the film may soon see an official release in the state, aligning with its pan-India rollout.Film’s Karnataka release delayed after Kamal Haasan’s remark‘Thug Life,’ which hit theatres across the country on June 5, was notably absent from Karnataka screens after protests erupted over a controversial remark made by Kamal Haasan. At the film’s audio launch, Kamal Haasan commented that “Kannada was born from Tamil,” which sparked outrage among pro-Kannada groups. The remark triggered a backlash and led to demonstrations demanding a statewide ban on the film’s release.Thug Life’s Karnataka debutWhat began as a linguistic debate soon escalated into a larger cultural and political issue. Due to heightened public emotions, authorities have been under pressure to manage the situation. Now, promising to take all necessary preventive measures with the state and ensure law and order, the supporters of the film are hopeful for a peaceful resolution. Will the upcoming verdict of the Supreme Court pave the way for the start of Karnataka of ‘Thug Life,’ and the film is likely to be released in the state on 27 June.
