Surveen Chawla reveals she was asked to gain weight for South films: 'Kuch bounce nahi karega...'

Actress Surveen Chawla recently opened up about the challenges she faced when entering the South Indian film industry. She revealed that she was pressured to change her body size to meet industry expectations, shedding light on the ongoing issue of the objectification of women’s bodies in both South Indian and Hindi cinema.Surveen about objectifying women in cinema

In an interview with Hauterrfly, Surveen explained, “You go down South, you need to put on weight. You come back, you need to lose weight. For the South, you’re very slim, very thin, because bosoms nahi honge… Kuch hilega nahi, kuch bounce nahi karega…”She further noted that although these expectations still exist within the industry, the manner in which people demand physical changes has become more refined and sophisticated. Earlier, such demands were made directly, so she used to respond to them just as bluntly.About her experience in TVSurveen recalled her struggling days in the television industry, particularly working with a director on Kahiin Toh Hoga, who used to treat everyone on set like cattle. While she acknowledged that the company backing the project gave her a break, she stated that she does not support the way people were treated, stressing that paying someone for their work does not mean you own them.Surveen also shared that, due to her background in television, she missed out on several film opportunities early in her career because filmmakers considered her “overexposed.”Surveen is known for her performances in projects like ‘Sacred Games,’ ‘Hate Story 2’, ‘Rana Naidu’ and more.
