Spike Lee subtly reacts to Denzel Washington’s confrontation with Cannes Film Festival photographer

Spike Lee is sounding off on Denzel Washington’s viral red carpet moment.

The “Highest 2 Lowest” director appeared to subtly react to the actor’s tense confrontation with a Cannes Film Festival photographer Monday evening.

During a press conference — which Washington skipped — the 68-year-old seemingly made a pointed quip about a “f–k up.”

Lee, who accidentally revealed the 2021 Palme d’Or winner early as the Cannes jury president, said, “The last time I was in this room, I had to apologize for a f–k up.”

The screenwriter added that he “won’t be apologizing today for a f–k up” — but did not address the controversy further.

Lee’s rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

The producer directed “Highest 2 Lowest,” which is his fifth time working with Washington, who stars as a music producer named David King.

The duo previously collaborated on “Inside Man” (2006), “He Got Game” (1998), “Malcolm X” (1992) and “Mo’ Better Blues” (1990) together.

Washington, 70, was all smiles posing for pictures with Lee on Monday’s red carpet, as well as his co-stars, A$AP Rocky and Ilfenesh Hadera.

The Golden Globe winner’s meltdown happened when he approached a photographer on the red carpet and began to chastise him.

However, when the photographer tried to appease the actor by grabbing his arm, Washington snapped.

“Never put your hands on me again. I’m talking to you,” the actor told him, according to lip reader Jeremy Freeman (via the Daily Mail).

“Stop it, stop it,” he reportedly continued.

Although Washington was absent from the subsequent press conference, Lee was joined by Hadera, 39, and Jeffrey Wright.

Washington, notably, is starring in “Othello” on Broadway, and his brief Cannes appearance is bookended by performances on Sunday and Tuesday.

The Oscar winner has yet to publicly comment on his heated confrontation.
