Shefali Jariwala once spoke about fake rumours about her death after Kaanta Laga release: 'People said her brother killed her, she got cancer'
Shefali Jariwala, famously known as the Kaanta Laga girl, passed away at 42. Her death shocked fans and the entertainment industry. She faced rumours and personal attacks early in her career. She once spoke about fake news, including reports of her death and cancer. Celebrities have criticised media coverage of her death.

Shefali Jariwala’s untimely death at 42 has left fans and the entertainment industry reeling. Known as the Kaanta Laga girl, Shefali rose to fame overnight but also faced an overwhelming wave of rumours and personal attacks early in her career. In one of her last interviews, she candidly reflected on the bizarre and hurtful fake news that followed her rise to stardom—including false reports of her death and cancer diagnosis. Now, as tributes pour in, her past words about media scrutiny and trolling feel more hauntingly relevant than ever.Reflecting on her early struggles, Shefali shared that she’s grown a thick skin over her two decades in the industry. Recalling the Kaanta Laga days, she said the trolling she faced then—despite the absence of social media—was far more personal and intense, making it difficult to escape or ignore.Kaanta Laga was seen as bold and ahead of its time, making Shefali Jariwala an easy target for criticism—even from her own relatives. She recalled how some family members disapproved of her appearance in the song, claiming it brought shame. Shockingly, bizarre rumours even claimed her (non-existent) brother had killed her. Shefali pointed out that, compared to such real-life trolling, today’s faceless social media hate doesn’t affect her—emphasizing how much tougher it was back then.Recalling the bizarre and insensitive rumours from her Kaanta Laga days, Shefali Jariwala shared how false claims spread like wildfire—even without social media. One rumour said she got a tattoo, developed cancer, and died—so much so that news channels picked it up as national news. She remembered phones and landlines constantly ringing with people asking if she had really passed away. Amusingly, she didn’t even have a real tattoo at the time—it was just body paint for the video. She eventually got an actual tattoo later, inspired by the wild rumour.Following Bigg Boss 13 fame Shefali Jariwala’s sudden death on Friday night, many celebrities have criticized the paparazzi and media for their insensitive coverage. As per reports, the 42-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest triggered by low blood pressure, allegedly caused by taking anti-ageing pills while fasting.
