Rekha was in tears as Richa Chadha reminded the actress of her past during her death scene in 'Heeramandi', says Ali Fazal: 'Hamare zamaane ki yaad...'

Richa Chadha who was seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Heeramandi’ as ‘Lajjo’ dies in the series early on. Her character was madly in love with Adhyayan Suman’s character who was a nawab. The pain of this unrequited love made her commit suicide in the film. Her death scene made Richa’s husband, actor Ali Fazal extremely emotional. He thought he was biased, however, he revealed that the legendary Rekha who was also there at the screening was also left in tears. The ‘Fukrey’ actor said in an interview with Galatta Plus that he’s a fan of Richa. He said, “It was absolutely wonderful. I’m such a fan! It’s so interesting I was sitting at the premiere, where they do two episodes. So that’s exactly when her part is till at. I was totally teary-eyed. I thought okay, maybe it’s my bias.”However, he added further, “I look on my right, and there’s Rekha ji in tears. Of course, she gave her the best compliment, ‘Tumne humein humare zamane ki yaad dila di.’ I remember she said that.”For those not in the know, Rekha was the first choice for Mallikajaan’s character in ‘Heeramandi’ which was eventually portrayed by Manisha Koirala. For this particular sequence before her death scene, Richa couldn’t get the emotions right hence, Bhansali screamed at her. That’s when she then could feel that anger in her and thus, the scene got perfect. The film-maker had said in an interview with India Today, “The anger on her face was so special. That moment was a result of what I said to her and what she said to me. In all the songs I’ve shot, big numbers, this is one of the rare moments of the actor feeling the humiliation of the scene that she went through rather than feeling the humiliation of me getting angry and saying, ‘How many takes will you want?'”
