    Rajinikanth-starrer Coolie’s overseas rights sold for Rs 68 crore, beats Kamal Haasan's Thug Life

    Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ in theatres on August 14, and the latest reports show that the film has struck a massive deal for its international distribution.Coolie’s overseas distributionAccording to Pinkvilla, the overseas theatrical rights of Coolie have been acquired for a staggering Rs 68 crore. One of the leading distribution companies is said to have secured the rights to this highly anticipated Tamil action film. “The international rights for Coolie have been bought for Rs 68 crore,” the source noted.The report also highlights that the film might have fetched an even larger sum had it not been slated for release alongside Hrithik Roshan’s ‘War 2’ . Coolie has nevertheless managed to set a significant benchmark in Tamil cinema. It now stands as Rajinikanth’s biggest overseas deal to date, and the second highest in the industry overall, trailing only behind Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’, which sold international rights for Rs 75 crore.

    Kamal Haasan’s recent release Thug Life was previously sold for Rs 63 crore, while Leo was picked up by multiple distributors for Rs 60 crore, and The Greatest of All Time fetched Rs 53 crore.Rajinikanth’s JailerRajinikanth’s last major hit, Jailer, sold its overseas rights for Rs 35 crore. The movie, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is currently gearing up for its second part. Mohanlal, Nandamuri Balakrishna, and Shiva Rajkumar are expected to appear in special roles, alongside speculation of a Bollywood actor joining the cast.About CoolieDirected by Lokesh Kanagaraj, ‘Coolie’ is generating immense curiosity as it is expected to feature Rajinikanth in an antagonistic role. The movie also stars Nagarjuna Akkineni and Upendra Rao in lead roles. Bollywood star Aamir Khan will make a cameo appearance, while actors such as Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, and Sathyaraj will play significant roles.
