Diddy’s fantasies were Cassie’s coerced reality.

Sometimes the shrinking is slow.

Over time, without noticing, you are trained to not question, to surrender, to be tiny. Tip-toeing on eggs becomes as normal as breathing. To crack one cracks you, so you bend and break into quiet surrender.

Cassie Ventura continues to be questioned, by lawyers and the public, about why she didn’t leave Sean “Diddy” Combs. They wonder why she didn’t just say no. I wonder, would we be so comfortable slinging around salacious allegations if we called the freak-offs what they are: rape and trafficking at their worst, sexual intimidation and gross abuse at their least worst.

Go through the testimony and replace the word “freak-off” with rape. Or call it coerced sexual violation. Diddy’s so-called fantasies were forced onto Cassie’s reality. He met her when she was 19 and he was 37. Her career and heart in his hands — he held the power. She testified she was 21 or 22 by the time he first beat her. It was in that timeframe she said he pulled her into the violent, degrading, and drug-fueled sexual acts Diddy likes to call “freak-offs.”

Over the years he is alleged to have recorded them, threatened to release them, used them to control and scare her. The jury is seeing some of those violent visuals this week as Cassie took the stand and publicly shared the most hurtful and horrid parts of her life. They are not her whole life. They are not her identity. She is more than the abuse she suffered. I do not wonder why she couldn’t just leave sooner.

Globally, one woman or girl is killed every 10 minutes, according to UN Women. In America, an average of 76 women are shot and killed by an intimate partner each month according to analysis by Everytown Research. An abusive partner with a gun is more likely to kill.

We’ve seen how abusive partners with fame find ways to skirt the system for decades and in some cases, for always. Especially, when they are responsible for the art we love. I remember the 49th anniversary issue of Essence magazine. I was in awe of the beauty of Diddy and his three daughters together on the cover for a Mother’s Day celebration. I remember the photos of him with all of his children and his own mother inside. This was barely a year after the death of brilliant talent promoter and model Kim Porter, his longtime on-again, off-again love and mother of four of his children. It was in her honor.

“My daughters have taught me patience. They’ve opened up my feminine side,” he told Essence. “They really taught me how to treat other women. It took me to have daughters to really know how to treat a woman and I’m still learning.”

He said that in 2019, after having beat Cassie over the course of 11 years and allegedly abusing a great many others. He said that in 2019 when his daughters were around 12 or 13. These young ladies are now approaching the age Cassie was when she met their father. I don’t believe they taught him violence.

No, I haven’t once thought why Cassie didn’t just leave or say no. I only hope her healing comes faster than her hurt.

Abuse and control doesn’t always come at a victim fast. The grooming can be gradual. I remember the way my parents beat on one another and how their patterns hid in the recesses of my choices for years to come.

Maybe you express an opposing opinion and are punished by silence, cancelled plans, and lectures on your lack of gratitude. Perhaps you forget to answer a call. Next thing you know your phone is snatched out your hands accompanied by threats of losing it. Possibly, by the time you realize you’re lost in someone else’s control, you’re already isolated, repeatedly beat down, demoralized, and hard isn’t a heavy enough way to describe the challenge of finding your way out.

Diddy is said to have had assistants and security helping detail her every move. Her home and hotels alike would be damaged when she tried to leave or did anything that displeased him. He’d have her things confiscated. He is alleged to have ordered the firebombing of rapper Kid Cudi’s car when she tried to move on by dating him. Testimony shows Diddy used violence to keep her in fear and under his control. She was not a willing participant. She was his victim trying to survive.

Now, almost 20 years after Cassie first met Diddy, she is in her third trimester of pregnancy with her third child with husband Alex Fine. And people continue to speculate about “how her marriage will survive this testimony.” There is a portion of the public who think she should be held responsible for the gruesome acts that happened to her instead of seeing the monster of misogyny that hovers above us all.

Language matters. And Diddy’s dark twisted fantasies are not freak-offs. They are a fatal train of sex trafficking, abuse, and violence.

Cassie is no longer small. She’s expansive, bold, and on some level, I hope she feels free.

Steam Did Not Suffer a Security Breach and You Don’t Need to Change Your Password, Says Valve

Following reports that Steam had suffered a security breach that might affect as many as 89 million users, Valve has set the record straight on the matter, clarifying that the leak absolutely did not breach Steam systems, and users do not need to change their passwords.

We have examined the leak sample and have determined this was NOT a breach of Steam systems. We’re still digging into the source of the leak, which is compounded by the fact that any SMS messages are unencrypted in transit, and routed through multiple providers on the way to your phone.

The leak consisted of older text messages that included one-time codes that were only valid for 15-minute time frames and the phone numbers they were sent to. The leaked data did not associate the phone numbers with a Steam account, password information, payment information or other personal data. Old text messages cannot be used to breach the security of your Steam account, and whenever a code is used to change your Steam email or password using SMS, you will receive a confirmation via email and/or Steam secure messages.

You do not need to change your passwords or phone numbers as a result of this event. It is a good reminder to treat any account security messages that you have not explicitly requested as suspicious. We recommend regularly checking your Steam account security at any time at this URL.

We also recommend setting up the Steam Mobile Authenticator if you haven’t already, as it gives us the best way to send secure messages about your account and your account’s safety.

The reports began when a hacker known as Machine1337 or EnergyWeapon started advertising the sale of user records for Valve’s platforms on the dark web. They were attempting to sell the data for $5K, but according to Valve, nothing malicious could be done with them anyway.

Xenomorphs Are Coming to TV. Here’s What We Know About ‘Alien: Earth’

0

“Alien: Earth” is bringing the xenomorphs somewhere they’ve never been before: Television.

The FX TV series developed by Noah Hawley, who created fan-favorite shows including “Legion” and “Fargo,” will expand the “Alien” timeline to before Ridley Scott’s original 1979 movie.

It’s a good time to be a fan of the franchise, since 2024 also saw the release of “Alien: Romulus,” which surprised audiences with its ultra-gory sequences and jump scares.

As the title suggests, the 2025 TV series brings the xenomorphs to Earth.

The films often mention that if the deadly creatures make it to Earth, it will be game over for the human race. This will no doubt raise questions for sci-fi fans about the continuity of the long-running movie franchise.

Here’s everything we know about “Alien: Earth” so far.

‘Alien: Earth’ will premiere on August 12.

On May 13, Disney confirmed that the show will begin streaming on Hulu on August 12, with episodes arriving on Disney+ on August 13.

The show consists of eight episodes and its finale will air on September 23. It’s unclear whether FX and Disney are planning to continue the show beyond season one or if it will be a limited series.

The ‘Alien: Earth’ cast includes Timothy Olyphant, Sydney Chandler, and Alex Lawther.

Disney and FX also released a handful of images showing the characters who will come face-to-face with the Xenomorphs, as well as a lengthy new synopsis that explains what to expect from “Alien: Earth.”

It reads: “In the year 2120, the Earth is governed by five corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic and Threshold. In this Corporate Era, cyborgs (humans with both biological and artificial parts) and synthetics (humanoid robots with artificial intelligence) exist alongside humans. But the game is changed when the wunderkind Founder and CEO of Prodigy Corporation unlocks a new technological advancement: hybrids (humanoid robots infused with human consciousness).

“The first hybrid prototype named “Wendy” marks a new dawn in the race for immortality. After Weyland-Yutani’s spaceship collides into Prodigy City, “Wendy” and the other hybrids encounter mysterious life forms more terrifying than anyone could have ever imagined.”

Sydney Chandler will play Wendy, the human-robot hybrid at the center of the series. Timothy Olyphant, best known for his roles in “Scream” and “The Mandalorian, will join her to play Kirsh, another robot, who looks after her.

They’re joined by the “Andor” actor Alex Lawther, who plays a soldier named CJ, Samuel Blenkin as a CEO named Boy Kavalier, and Essie Davis as Dame Silvia. Also in the cast are Diêm Camille and Moe Bar-El as soldiers named Siberian and Rashidi, respectively.

‘Alien: Earth’ is set two years before the first movie.

The “Alien” timeline is starting to get quite messy with the various sequels and prequels. But Hawley is keeping things fresh by rolling back the clock so that “Alien: Earth” is set two years before the first movie.

The first teaser for the series confirmed the year that it takes place with the ominous tagline: “In 2120, Mother Earth is expecting.”

1979’s “Alien” takes place in 2122, and by giving the show a little breathing room from the movies, it can hopefully stand on its own two feet.

Hawley told Deadline last September: “There’s something about seeing a xenomorph in the wilds of Earth with your own eyes. That is truly chilling to think of it moving here among us, and so I can’t tell you under what circumstances you’ll see that, but you’ll see it — and you’re going to lock your door that night.”

Severe storms threaten Chicago, Milwaukee with strong tornadoes Thursday

CHICAGO – A weeklong severe weather threat continues on Thursday as millions of people in major Midwest cities like Chicago and Milwaukee brace for powerful storms that could pack very large hail, hurricane-force wind gusts and strong tornadoes.

This renewed threat comes after an eerie lull in extreme weather during a month that is usually packed with reports of strong to severe thunderstorms and tornadoes.

Forecasters have been tracking the possibility of a multiday severe weather event since the weekend, and storm chances in cities from the Plains through the Midwest and into the Ohio Valley have been growing ever since.

More than 87 million people from the Upper Midwest to the mid-Atlantic will be at risk of severe weather on Thursday. However, chances are higher across portions of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed more than 20 million people in that region under a Level 3 risk on its 5-point severe thunderstorm risk scale.

This includes cities such as Chicago, Madison and Milwaukee in Wisconsin, St. Paul in Minnesota and Fort Wayne in Indiana.

Elsewhere, nearly 33 million people in cities like Minneapolis, Detroit and Indianapolis have been placed in a Level 2 out of 5 threat.

The FOX Forecast Center said that ahead of a cold front, deep moisture from the Gulf and moderate instability in the atmosphere will give way to severe thunderstorms developing during the afternoon hours.

Some of those thunderstorms will likely be supercells, and eventually, a broken line of storms will develop by mid-afternoon and move northeastward through the Chicago and Milwaukee metro areas.

The more intense storms will have hail larger than 2 inches, and given the amount of spin in the atmosphere, conditions will be favorable to support tornadoes, some of which could be strong (EF-2 or higher).

Severe weather is then expected to sweep into Michigan, and storms will be capable of producing wind gusts higher than 75 mph, along with very large hail.

Elsewhere in the Ohio Valley, severe thunderstorms will be much more scattered in nature.

Climber who survived 400-foot fall that killed 3 others was unconscious before seeking pay phone

0

A rock climber in Washington who survived a fall of hundreds of feet that killed his three companions lay unconscious for hours before waking in the dark, trekking out with internal bleeding and driving to a pay phone to summon help, authorities said he told them on Wednesday.

Speaking from a Seattle hospital, Anton Tselykh, 38, confirmed investigators’ theory that an anchor, called a piton, that he and his companions were using Saturday evening to rappel down the Early Winters Spires in the North Cascade Range had ripped out of the rock.

Tselykh was in satisfactory condition Wednesday morning at Harborview Medical Center, meaning he was not in the intensive care unit, Susan Gregg, media relations director for UW Medicine, said in an email.

One climber was rappelling off the piton — a metal spike pounded into rock cracks or ice that climbers anchor their ropes to — and the three others were tied into it and waiting to descend, said Cristina Woodworth, who leads the sheriff’s search and rescue team and spoke with Tselykh by phone.

When the piton tore out of the rock, all four plunged roughly 200 feet (60 meters) past sheer mountainside, landing in a gully and tumbling another 200 feet (60 meters) before coming to a rest, said Woodworth.

It’s still unclear if they had a backup anchor to the piton, which is a common practice for rock climbers, said Joshua Cole, a guide and co-owner of North Cascades Mountain Guides who has been climbing in the area for about 20 years.

Tselykh lost consciousness for several hours, awaking in the dark in a tangle of ropes and gear, suffering from internal bleeding and head trauma, said Woodworth.

It took Tselykh eight hours to disentangle himself, work his way down the rough terrain of rock and snow — with help from a pick-like ice tool — to his car, where he drove for some 40 miles (67 kilometers) to the unincorporated community of Newhalem and called for help, authorities said.

The four climbers were friends, some of whom had climbed together before and appeared fairly experienced, Woodworth said, adding that Tselykh was “obviously very much affected by this.”

The climbers who were killed were Vishnu Irigireddy, 48; Tim Nguyen, 63; and Oleksander Martynenko, 36, the county coroner said.

Olga Martynenko, Martynenko’s wife, said Tuesday in a Facebook post that her husband, whom she referred to as Alex, also left behind their son. She shared a link to a fundraiser to help “during the most devastating time of our lives.”

“I still cannot believe that you are gone, my love,” she said.

Fluke Corporation, a test equipment manufacturing company, shared in a statement Wednesday that Irigireddy was the manufacturer’s vice president of engineering.

“Vishnu was an extraordinary leader, and his loss is felt profoundly across our organization,” the statement read.

Wisconsin judge to be arraigned for allegedly obstructing immigration authorities

A Wisconsin county judge is set to be arraigned Thursday morning on federal obstruction charges after allegedly helping a man evade immigration authorities during a federal law enforcement operation at her courthouse.

In April, Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested by the FBI after director Kash Patel said she “intentionally misdirected federal agents away” from an illegal immigrant who had a criminal court hearing in front of the judge and was set to be arrested after his hearing ended.

Dugan was charged with one count of concealing an individual to prevent arrest and obstruction, and on Tuesday a federal grand jury indicted her on those charges.

The man, Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, is currently in custody at an immigration detention center. d.

According to a sworn statement by an FBI agent, Flores-Ruiz was deported from the United States in 2013 and illegally reentered the U.S. During this period, Flores-Ruiz was accused of committing battery.

After a fingerprint match from Flores-Ruiz’s first arrest in 2013 and a local case in Milwaukee, a warrant for his arrest and deportation was issued by ICE.

While Flores-Ruiz was scheduled to appear before Dugan for a criminal court appearance, law enforcement waited outside of her courtroom to arrest him on an administrative warrant.

The FBI agent said in the statement that “arrest team members reported that while waiting outside of the courtroom, a woman approached and took photos of arrest team members,” just before Flores-Ruiz arrived at the court with his attorney.

A courtroom deputy told the FBI agent that the woman who took the photos of the arrest team showed the pictures to Dugan while she was on the bench in her courtroom, and “Dugan became visibly angry, commented that the situation was ‘absurd,’ left the bench, and entered chambers.”

Dugan then approached the arrest team with another judge in the public hallway.

“Witnesses uniformly reported that Judge Dugan was visibly upset and had a confrontational, angry demeanor,” the agent wrote. Dugan, according to witnesses, told the arrest team to go to the chief judge’s office to speak with them about the permissibility of making the arrest inside the courthouse, and looked around the hallway near her courtroom to seek out other law enforcement officers who were waiting to arrest Flores-Ruiz.

One agent, who Dugan did not recognize as part of the arrest team, remained in the hallway waiting for Flores-Ruiz.

After that, the special agent said multiple witnesses in Dugan’s courtroom saw her say, “Wait, come with me,” to Flores-Ruiz as he headed toward the public courtroom exit where the officers were waiting.

“Judge Dugan then escorted Flores-Ruiz and his counsel out of the courtroom through the ‘jury door,’ which leads to a nonpublic area of the courthouse,” the agent wrote, adding that Dugan also instructed the man’s attorney to also leave the courtroom through that door.

Agents later spotted Flores-Ruiz “looking around the hallway,” in the courthouse and followed him out of the courthouse, where a foot chase ensued and he was arrested.

Dugan’s attorney Craig Mastantuono said in a statement to CBS News that, “As she said after her unnecessary arrest, Judge Dugan asserts her innocence and looks forward to being vindicated in court.”

On Wednesday, Dugan’s attorneys moved to dismiss the indictment against her, claiming the actions she took were in her official capacity as a judge and thus has “absolute immunity from criminal prosecution.” She also claimed the arrest was a violation of the Tenth Amendment.

Dugan was released from detention after making an initial appearance in federal court. As the result of her arrest, Dugan was suspended from the bench in late April by the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Milwaukee County Circuit Court Chief Judge Carl Ashley said Dugan’s docket would be taken over by a reserve judge “as needed.”

Dugan has served as a judge in Milwaukee County Circuit Court since 2016, when she was elected with about 65% of the vote. She was  reelected in 2022 after running unopposed.

R Ashwin breaks silence on India’s Test captaincy, cites Graeme Smith’s example | Cricket News

R Ashwin breaks silence on India’s Test captaincy, cites Graeme Smith's example

Retired Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has named Jasprit Bumrah as his preferred choice to lead India in Test cricket, while acknowledging that Shubman Gill is emerging as the most popular candidate. Speaking on his YouTube channel Ash Ki Baat, Ashwin also highlighted the leadership vacuum in the Indian side and called for a more structured and transparent captaincy selection process. Ashwin expressed concern about how public opinion forms in cricket, stating that repeated narratives often turn perception into reality. “If one person says something, it’s an opinion. If five say it, it becomes a strong opinion. But if fifty say the same thing, people start believing it’s the truth. That’s my issue,” he said. He backed Bumrah, calling him a “national treasure,” but admitted that the fast bowler’s injury history and the demands of a full Test series make his long-term availability uncertain. “Bumrah has had one major surgery. I’ll be very surprised if he plays all five Tests in a series. He needs to be given breaks to recover,” Ashwin said. “Still, I’ll be very disappointed if he never gets to captain.” Ashwin also proposed the name of Ravindra Jadeja as a short-term option, suggesting he could lead for a couple of years while grooming a younger successor like Gill. “Let’s not forget, Jadeja is the most experienced player in the team. He should be in the conversation,” he said.Quiz: Who’s that IPL player? He praised Australia’s approach of evaluating leadership candidates by asking them to present their captaincy vision, suggesting India should adopt a similar model. “Captain, coach, and selector can make or break careers. It’s happened before and will happen again. That’s why I believe there should be an interview process.”

Shane Watson on Phil Hughes: “It Took the Innocence of the Game Away

Ashwin argued that players like Rishabh Pant, Gill, Bumrah and Jadeja should not be judged on leadership potential without understanding their vision. “Leadership is about character. No captain, coach or selector truly knows a player’s character unless they’ve spoken to him,” he said. On Shubman Gill, Ashwin acknowledged that he appears to be the leading contender in the eyes of the public, and drew a parallel with Graeme Smith, who captained South Africa at a young age.

Virat Kohli & Anushka Visit Vrindavan After Test Retirement | Meet Premanand Ji Maharaj

“I hope Gujarat Titans qualify for the IPL playoffs. If Gill gains honour there, it might make his transition to leadership easier. But captaincy, especially in Tests, is not about one good season. A leader should know what’s happening in first-class cricket too,” he said. Ashwin concluded by reiterating his admiration for Gill but emphasised the value of experience and structure in leadership decisions.
