‘Non-veg food, liquor, loud music’: 5 cops suspended for partying at collector’s residence in Odisha; officers caught dancing in uniform under influence of alcohol

BALASORE: Five police personnel were suspended on Friday for organising an unauthorised party and consuming alcohol while on duty at the District Collector’s official residence in Balasore, Odisha.Superintendent of Police Raj Prasad ordered the immediate suspension after videos showing the officers dancing in uniform under the influence of alcohol went viral on social media platforms. The suspended officers include Havildar Hemanta Barik and Constables Siddheshwar Gochhayat, Deba Majhi, Sudhanshu Jena, and Ramchandra Tapaswi.

What should be prioritized at high-security government locations?

The incident occurred on the night of June 1 when the district collector, Suryawanshi Mayur Vikas, was away on official duty. Instead of maintaining security, the officers allegedly hosted a party in the guard room, complete with non-vegetarian food, liquor, and loud music.“Empty beer cans and liquor bottles were found near the guard room during preliminary investigation,” a senior police official said on condition of anonymity. SP Prasad emphasised the gravity of the situation, stating, “Police personnel posted at high-security govt establishments must maintain the highest level of discipline. Any misconduct will face strict action.”A Deputy Superintendent of Police has been appointed to conduct a detailed investigation. Further disciplinary action may follow based on the probe’s findings. The incident has raised serious concerns about security protocols at high-profile govt establishments in the district.
