Deepika Padukone’s departure from ‘Spirit’ over scheduling and fee disagreements has ignited industry-wide discussions. Neha Dhupia voiced support for Padukone’s request for fair work conditions for new mothers. Mani Ratnam deemed her demands rightful, acknowledging industry progress. Padukone, initially drawn to the role, exited due to unmet requests, including a reported Rs 40 crore fee and fixed schedule.

Deepika Padukone’s exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit has sparked debate over her demands for a fixed schedule and high fee, which clashed with the film’s budget. As the controversy grows, voices like Neha Dhupia and Mani Ratnam have come out in support, stressing the need for fair work conditions, especially for new mothers balancing career and family.Taking to Instagram Stories today (June 9), Neha Dhupia opened up about work-life balance and how new mothers are sidelined. She wrote, “For work-life balance to go beyond conversations, new moms need practical support and consideration. instead, we often get shamed or sidelined. Earlier, in an interview with News18, filmmaker Mani Ratnam backed Deepika Padukone’s stance, calling her demand “rightful.” He also expressed happiness that Deepika is in a position to make such requests, highlighting the progress in the industry. The creator of Thug Life spoke on behalf of filmmakers, acknowledging that practical considerations like scheduling and fees naturally influence casting decisions. Mani Ratnam emphasized that Deepika’s request was not unreasonable but a necessary one.He emphasized the importance of recognizing and accommodating such needs, especially when balancing personal responsibilities alongside professional commitments.Deepika Padukone was reportedly drawn to the compelling storyline of Spirit and the depth of her character, which led her to initially agree to join the film. However, circumstances changed, and she eventually had to exit the project.According to reports, Deepika Padukone requested a fee of Rs 40 crore, while the makers had a budget of Rs 20 crore. She also sought a fixed shooting schedule to better manage her professional commitments alongside her personal life. However, her demands were not accepted by the producers and directors, leading to a disagreement.Deepika Padukone was also asked to learn Telugu for the role. Considering all these factors, she decided to exit the film. Shortly after, Triptii Dimri was brought on board as her replacement.
