Mumbai Train Accident: GRP Constable Vicky Mukhyadal Among 5 Dead in Diva-Kopar Tragedy

Mumbai, June 9: A tragic train accident between Diva and Kopar stations on Mumbai’s Central Railway line claimed five lives on Monday, including a Government Railway Police (GRP) constable identified as Vicky Mukhyadal, aged 34.

Mukhyadal, a resident of Kalyan, was reportedly on duty at the time of the incident. He is survived by his wife and a newborn baby. His parents currently reside in Jalna.

According to preliminary reports, 10 to 12 passengers fell off an overcrowded local train headed towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). Several victims were hanging onto the doors when the mishap occurred. All five deceased, aged between 30 and 35, were recovered from the tracks and declared dead at Kalwa Hospital.

Authorities are in the process of confirming the identities of the remaining victims.

In response to the incident, the Railway Board announced new safety measures. All newly manufactured rakes for Mumbai’s suburban rail network will now come equipped with automatic door-closing systems, and existing rakes will be retrofitted with this safety upgrade.

The accident has reignited concerns over overcrowding on Mumbai local trains and the urgent need for enhanced passenger safety on suburban routes.
