A Michigan couple had an anniversary they will never forget, as lottery officials said they won $2 million from a scratch-off ticket.
Michigan Lottery officials said the couple, from Oakland County, Michigan, told officials they had a routine of buying scratch-offs like the Diamonds & Gold game, which is the one that ended up winning them millions.
“We scratched this ticket off together on our wedding anniversary and my husband noticed the $2 million prize first. He thought something wasn’t right, so we took it to the store to scan it,” the 44-year-old woman, who opted to remain anonymous, said.
According to lottery officials, when they scanned the ticket at the store, the machine prompted them to claim at the Michigan Lottery office. Still in disbelief, they asked a friend to scan their ticket on the lottery app.
“I started shaking and was in total shock when $2 million came up on the screen. It was so exciting and the best surprise on our anniversary!” the woman said.
Michigan Lottery officials said the woman chose a one-time payment of $1.3 million, which she plans to use to buy a house, invest and use for her kid’s college funds.
