'From One Chaiwala To Another': PM Modi's Viral Moment With Indian-Origin Tea Seller In UK

In 2023, on his visit to India, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida enjoyed Pani Puri with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which went viral. And on July 25, 2025 PM Modi once made headlines when the video of him enjoying masala tea in the UK went viral.According to viral social media posts, during his recent trip to the UK, PM Modi shared a picture of him enjoying a cup of tea served by an Indian-origin entrepreneur. The UK-based founder is Akhil Patel, who runs the tea brand called Amala Chai. He shared a post on X and captioned it, “‘Chai pe Charcha’ with PM Keir Starmer at Chequers…brewing stronger India-UK ties!” Take a look at the post: A video of Patel interacting with the Indian prime minister is going viral on social media. In it, he wittily says from ‘one chaiwala to another’ while pouring a cup of steaming hot tea for PM Modi.According to his Linkedin bio, he has studied at the University College School in Hampstead, London. Later, he pursued a Bachelor of Science (BSc), Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).In 2019, he changed his career and founded Amala chai, inspired by his grandma. The company’s LinkedIn page says that the Indian tea and spices it serves are sourced directly from “small family farms in Assam and Kerala.”As per reports, in the month of May, the British Museum featured the company in a video that gave a glimpse into how Amala Chai procures its materials from India. As the video of PM Modi went viral, Patel shared the video of his brand page, the caption of which reads, “Just a casual Thursday serving chai for @narendramodi @keirstarmer What a crazy day! Beyond honoured. We’ll be sharing the full story with you next week so keep your eyes peeled!”This is not the first time that PM Modi has made headlines because of chai. In 2024, during his trip to Jaipur with the French President, he posted an Instagram post where they both can be seen enjoying Kulhad Wali Chai. He captioned the video, “Tea with my friend President @emmanuelmacron”As per the video post, they enjoyed Kulhad Chai at the famous Sahu Chai Stall, which is situated in the main bazaar of Jaipur and has been running since 1968. It was established by the late Shree Ladhu Ram ji.
