Makers of Prabhas' 'The Raja Saab' say crew worked 18 hours without fail amid Deepika Padukone's 8-hour shift demand for 'Spirit'

Prabhas is gearing up for the release of his much-awaited horror movie ‘The Raja Saab’, and the recently dropped teaser glimpse has won hearts. During the recent teaser launch event of the film in Hyderabad, the producers addressed the ongoing discussion about the practicality of an eight-hour workday in the entertainment industry. They revealed how their crew regularly clocked in 16 to 18-hour days to deliver better output for this large-scale project.Producers about the struggle behind ‘The Raja Saab’Producer TG Vishwa Prasad opened up about the prolonged timeline of the film, which spanned over two and a half years. “It’s already public how the film took two and a half years. The first difficult thing that we executed was that we had our big schedule post-Kalki (2898 AD), starting from the end of July or mid-August all the way to the end of December. I don’t know how Maruthi managed. He started at 6 am and ended at 11 pm, and continued this for more than 120 days,” he shared. He further mentioned that the climax of ‘The Raja Saab’ alone runs for 40 minutes and is packed with intense drama. According to Prasad, the movie involved nearly 300 days of VFX work and a massive indoor set.

Maruthi about ‘The Raja Saab’ crew and thier shift hoursAccording to India Today, director Maruthi shared that the actors of the film maintained an eight-hour workday, but those behind the camera — including himself — often worked nearly twice as long.“What happens is, the actors will work an eight-hour shift. I will keep some actors on one side (shift) and then [shoot with] others. But we (the crew) would work 18 hours a day — from morning, 6 am to 10 pm, we worked without fail. That is why we were able to shoot content of such quality,” he explained. He also acknowledged the efforts of his core team, including the director of photography and the production designer, emphasising that their dedication will be evident when audiences watch the movie in theatres.About Deepika Padukone’s recent controversy with SpiritThe discussion regarding eight-hour workdays for actors and new mothers in the industry gained traction after Deepika Padukone declined to star in Spirit alongside Prabhas due to director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s refusal to accept the demand. Later, the Animal director shared a cryptic post calling out some “dirty PR games”. One of the reports later noted that the work-life balance was never a demand from Deepika, but that her high pay scale and profit share sparked the issue.About ‘The Raja Saab’‘The Raja Saab’, starring Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani, Malavika Mohanan, and Nidhhi Agerwal, will hit theatres on December 5.
