Maa Box Office Collection Day 5: Horror film becomes Kajol's 10th highest earning film of all time; sees minimal growth on Tuesday

After a promising start and a strong opening weekend, Kajol’s supernatural thriller Maa is holding steady at the box office. On Day 5 (Tuesday), the film saw a modest rise in collections, earning an estimated Rs 2.85 crore, according to data from Sacnilk. This brings its five-day India net total to approximately Rs 23 crore.Directed by Vishal Furia, Maa had opened to encouraging numbers on Friday with Rs 4.65 crore, followed by a solid Saturday (Rs 6 crore) and Sunday (Rs 7 crore), pushing its weekend total to Rs 17.65 crore. However, the film saw a sharp 64% drop on Monday, earning Rs 2.5 crore. Tuesday’s slight upward trend suggests the film may continue its slow and steady pace through the week.Maa follows the story of a mother, played by Kajol, who transforms into Goddess Kali to break a horrific curse rooted in fear, blood, and betrayal. With its blend of horror, mythology, and maternal strength, the film has struck a chord with audiences, especially fans of the genre. The film also stars Indraneil Sengupta, Kherin Sharma, and Ronit Roy, and is written by Saiwyn Quadras. With its five-day total, Maa has now officially entered the list of Kajol’s top 10 highest-grossing films of all time. Currently at the 10th spot, the film is only a few crores shy of overtaking her 1997 hit Ishq, which earned Rs 24.8 crore in its lifetime run. Next on the benchmark list is the Salman Khan–Shah Rukh Khan starrer Karan Arjun, with an estimated Rs 25.75 crore.Whether Maa can surpass fan favourites like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai which earned an estimated Rs 46.88 crore, remains to be seen, but the film’s performance so far signals a solid comeback for Kajol in her first major theatrical release since Salaam Venky (2022).With steady word-of-mouth and limited genre competition, Maa is now poised to cross the Rs 25 crore mark in the coming days.
