After his gesture for late footballer Diogo Jota during the third Test at Lord’s, Mohammed Siraj shared the emotional reason behind it in a video posted by the BCCI. Speaking from the dressing room, Siraj said, “In the last match when we were arriving, I got to know that Diogo Jota passed away in a car accident. I’m a fan of Portugal because Cristiano Ronaldo plays for that team. I felt very emotional after hearing the news.”

He added, “Life is very unpredictable. We fight so hard for things, but we do not even know what tomorrow holds. There is no guarantee in life. It was very shocking.” Siraj went on to explain why he made the tribute after getting a wicket. “Today, I got wickets, so I wanted to make that gesture for him. It was my way of showing respect.” Siraj’s words reflected the deep impact the news had on him and highlighted the connection athletes feel with sports figures across different fields. His on-field gesture and heartfelt message struck a chord with fans, reminding everyone of the fragile and unpredictable nature of life.Diogo Jota tragically passed away in a car accident in Spain on July 3 at the age of 28. The former Liverpool forward was travelling with his brother when the incident occurred. A prominent figure in Portuguese football, Jota had played a key role in Liverpool’s Premier League-winning 2024-25 season and was part of Portugal’s UEFA Nations League triumph in May 2025.
