The new World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle is off to an action-packed start, with three Test series already shaping the early standings. While Australia and England have surged to the top, India and West Indies find themselves needing to make up ground. Australia and England occupy the first two spots on the WTC table, each boasting a perfect points percentage of 100 after winning their opening matches. Sri Lanka sit third after wrapping up their two-match series against Bangladesh with one win and a draw. Bangladesh, with a draw and a loss, are placed fourth. Here is the full World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 standings:

Meanwhile, three teams- reigning champions South Africa, New Zealand, and Pakistan, are yet to begin their WTC campaigns this cycle. India’s opening match did not go as planned despite an impressive fight at Headingley. The visitors had five centurions in the match but still ended up on the losing side as England pulled off a dramatic chase to take a 1-0 lead in the five-Test Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Set a target of 371, England rode on a commanding opening stand between Ben Duckett (149) and Zak Crawley, while Joe Root and debutant Jamie Smith guided the chase home with an unbeaten partnership. Shubman Gill’s men were left to rue a middle-order collapse and dropped catches that proved costly.Quiz: Who’s that IPL player? Speaking after the match, Gill admitted India had their chances but failed to grab them. He revealed India were eyeing a bigger lead but a lack of runs from the lower order hurt their plans. India will now turn their focus to the second Test at Edgbaston, hoping to bounce back quickly and keep their WTC campaign alive. For now, however, they sit near the bottom of the table alongside West Indies. The WTC cycle began with Sri Lanka’s tour of Bangladesh on June 17 and will run till the final in 2027.
