This courtroom drama is based on the book ‘The Case That Shook the Empire’ by Raghu and Pushpa Palat. The film follows C. Sankaran Nair, an Indian barrister and member of the Viceroy’s Council, who was initially asked to investigate the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by the British. They expected Nair to make a report in their favor, but as the barrister unfolded one layer after another of the horrific incident, he decided to challenge the British Empire’s narrative. The film is headlined by Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan, and Ananya Panday, playing the roles of barrister C. Sankaran Nair, advocate Neville McKinley, and law student Dilreet Gill, respectively. There’s also Regina Cassandra as Parvathy Nair, Sankaran’s wife, Simon Paisley Day as General Reginald Dyer, Alexx O’Nell as Lord Chelmsford, Amit Sial as Tirath Singh, Mark Bennington as Michael O’Dwyer, and many other talented artists in pivotal roles.
