    Delhi Rain Chaos: Waterlogged Streets, Massive Traffic Jams Hit City After Sudden Change in Weather

    NEW DELHI: The country is witnessing widespread monsoon activity across several regions, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing red, orange, and yellow alerts across states including Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Kerala. Heavy rains, thunderstorms, strong winds, and rising flood risks have put local administrations on high alert.Delhi under ‘yellow’ alert for May 30–31The IMD has issued a ‘yellow’ alert for Delhi on May 30, warning of light rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–60 kmph. These conditions are expected to continue through May 31, although with slightly reduced intensity.The department also forecast that daytime temperatures will remain below normal, bringing relief from the heat.“The spell of rain and thunderstorms is likely to continue. These weather episodes will keep the mercury in check, so day temperatures are expected to remain normal on most days. Heatwave conditions are unlikely for the rest of the month,” a Met official said.More rain forecast for Mumbai this weekMumbai witnessed early morning rainfall on Tuesday, easing recent heat and marking the onset of a wetter spell. The IMD predicts heavy to moderate rainfall through the week under cloudy skies.May 27 Forecast: Minimum and maximum temperatures expected at 23.0°C and 31.0°CMay 28–30: Moderate rainfall likely, temperatures ranging between 24.0°C and 32.0°CMay 31–June 1: Occasional rain or thunderstorms; temperatures could reach 33.0°CPeople have been advised to follow weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall hours.5-day ‘red’ alert for coastal KarnatakaCoastal Karnataka is under a five-day ‘red’ alert with extremely heavy rainfall (20 cm+) expected in the next 24 hours. The ongoing monsoon has caused landslides, flooding, power outages, and road accidents, particularly in the coastal and Malnad regions.A three-year-old girl died in a wall collapse incident linked to heavy rain. Schools and anganwadis in Balur village have been temporarily shut as a precaution.In Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada, multiple landslips and a sharp rise in river water levels were reported. The district administration has urged residents to avoid travel in vulnerable zones and stay indoors.Kerala braces for intense rainfall and high sea wavesThe IMD has issued red, orange, and yellow alerts for multiple districts in Kerala for May 27–28, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and surface winds up to 60 kmph.District-wise Weather Alerts:May 27:Red alert: Kozhikode, Wayanad, KannurOrange alert: Thrissur, Malappuram, KasaragodYellow alert: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, PalakkadMay 28:Orange alert: Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, KasaragodYellow alert: Remaining districts as listed aboveHigh-wave warningThe Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued a red-level high wave warning for several coastal districts, forecasting waves 3.6 to 4.2 meters high.The State Irrigation Department has issued:Orange alert: Korapuzha river (Kozhikode)Yellow alerts: Vamanapuram (Thiruvananthapuram), Manimala (Pathanamthitta), Kabani (Wayanad)Strong westerly winds at lower atmospheric levels are expected to persist for the next seven days, potentially extending these adverse conditions.
