A large crowd of Karen Read supporters celebrated Wednesday afternoon after she was acquitted of second-degree murder and other charges in connection with the death of Boston police officer John O’Keefe. Prosecutors alleged Read hit O’Keefe with her SUV in January 2022. Her defense argued she was a victim of a law enforcement cover-up. “I’m overwhelmed and I’m overjoyed, because when the police investigate themselves, this sort of injustice happens. And today, she has prevailed. And all these people who’ve been here, this community is awesome,” said one supporter.>> Download the free WMUR app to get updates on the go: Apple | Google Play <> Subscribe to WMUR’s YouTube channel <<

    MANCHESTER, N.H. —

And all these people who’ve been here, this community is awesome,” said one supporter.

Many gathered outside Norfolk Superior Court in Dedham, Massachusetts, ahead of the verdict and remained steadfast throughout the retrial.

“I’m feeling overwhelmed, like this is unbelievable. We’ve been waiting two, three years for this, and finally justice has prevailed. It’s a great feeling,” said another supporter.

Supporters used the American Sign Language gesture for “I love you” as Read and her legal team entered or left the courthouse.
