In an age where celebrities are constantly under scrutiny, Karan Johar has offered a refreshingly different perspective on internet trolling. In a recent interview, the filmmaker opened up about how he handles the constant barrage of online hate, and why he chooses to view it as a strange form of validation.‘Love and hate are both forms of appreciation’Karan, who directed last year’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, said that while being attacked online can be emotionally taxing, he chooses to see the silver lining. “The good thing about being trolled or attacked is that, thank God, they are not being indifferent. I think love and hate are both forms of appreciation,” he explained. He added that silence or apathy would hurt more. “Imagine if you’ve done something and no one is talking about it. That is the worst feeling,” he told Barkha Dutt for Mojo Story. Known for his flamboyant fashion and unfiltered opinions, Karan has often found himself in the eye of online storms. But instead of shying away, he’s decided to wear it as a badge of honour. “Even if they’re b**ching about what I’m saying, what I’m wearing, or what I’m doing, I think to myself—I must really annoy people. And then I’m like, how fabulous is that?” he said with a laugh.
Work frontCurrently, Karan is hosting the Indian edition of the reality show The Traitors, which has been winning attention for its suspense and drama. The finale is set to air on July 3, and viewers are already buzzing with speculation about who will emerge victorious.On the film front, Karan’s production house recently dropped the teaser for Sarzameen. Directed by Kayoze Irani, the film stars Kajol, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Ibrahim Ali Khan. The film is slated for release on July 25.
