Jeanine Pirro was officially sworn in as interim U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., during a high-profile Oval Office ceremony on Wednesday. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi administered the oath of office, with President Donald Trump in attendance.
Pirro replaces Ed Martin, Trump’s initial pick for the role, who recently resigned. Speaking after taking the oath, Pirro emphasized her commitment to restoring law and order in the nation’s capital.
“We need to send a message that justice will be honored in the District of Columbia,” Pirro declared. “No more tolerance of hatred. No more mercy for criminals.”
She continued by promising to directly confront violence with strict consequences, aiming to transform D.C. into “a shining city on a hill” as part of President Trump’s broader vision to “make America great and safe again.”
Pirro, previously a co-host on Fox News Channel’s The Five, stepped away from her media career to take on the federal role. Fox News Media confirmed her departure, stating:
“Jeanine Pirro has been a beloved host at FOX News for 14 years. We thank her for her outstanding contributions and wish her success in Washington.”
Trump praised Pirro’s extensive experience in both law and media, noting her qualifications to take on the interim U.S. attorney role.
During her remarks, Pirro also addressed the recent tragic killing of two Israeli embassy staffers in D.C., vowing swift justice for what she called a “cold-blooded murderer.”
