Cricketer Abhishek Sharma shared a glimpse into the small but powerful habit that helped him stay mentally grounded during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season on a recent episode of “The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show.“ The left-handed batter was seen pulling out a chit from his pocket after scoring a century in the tournament, a moment that caught the attention of fans and pundits alike. Explaining the gesture, Abhishek revealed it was part of his journaling and manifestation practice, a method he adopted on the advice of former India opener Shikhar Dhawan. “I started journaling a long time back. Shikhar Paaji once told me it’s helpful, and it really has been over the last 2-3 years,” Abhishek said, crediting the practice for helping him navigate both the highs and lows of the sport.

‘I was under pressure’: SRH’s Abhishek Sharma after a record 141 against Punjab Kings

Abhishek’s standout moment came during a blistering innings of 141 off just 55 balls against Punjab Kings in Hyderabad. His knock lit up the 2025 edition of the IPL and drew praise from cricketing legends. His innings, which included 14 boundaries and 10 sixes at a staggering strike rate of 256.36, is now etched in the record books as the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL history. He surpassed KL Rahul’s 132* against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2020.

Do you think journaling can help athletes perform better under pressure?

Overall, Abhishek’s 141 ranks as the third-highest individual score in IPL history, behind only Chris Gayle’s 175* and Brendon McCullum’s 158*. The youngster scored 116 of his 141 runs through boundaries, surpassing Jonny Bairstow’s previous record of 90 for the most runs in a single innings by a Sunrisers Hyderabad batter via boundaries. His tally of 10 sixes also set a new franchise record, overtaking David Warner’s mark of eight in an innings.
