TimesofIndia.com in London: Tensions flared late on Day 3 of the third Test between India and England at Lord’s, but England’s Specialist Skills Consultant Tim Southee played down the drama, calling it “part of the game” and praising the intensity and spirit of the series. With England and India locked at 1-1 in the series, the third Test has been a fiercely contested affair.

Saturday saw a rare and dramatic turn when both teams finished with identical first-innings scores — 387 all out — only the ninth such instance in Test history. India were bowled out just 15 minutes before stumps, and England managed a solitary over in response before play ended in tension.ALSO READ: Tensions boil at Lord’s! Who do you think will win the third Test between India and England?

England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley faced fierce criticism from Indian players for deliberately slowing the game, presumably to limit India’s chances of grabbing a late wicket under overcast skies. Crawley in particular clashed with India captain Shubman Gill after delays caused by glove troubles and field distractions, resulting in heated words and a tense walk-off.“It’s part of the game, an exciting way to finish the day,” Southee told reporters after the day’s play. “It’s been a great series, both sides played good cricket in good spirit. Today, there was good energy from both sides.”India’s innings was highlighted by a classy 100 from KL Rahul and gritty contributions from Ravindra Jadeja (72) and Rishabh Pant (74), the latter dismissed in dramatic fashion by a direct hit from Ben Stokes. With England leading only by two runs and the series finely poised, the final two days promise gripping cricket – and possibly more fireworks.
