IND vs ENG Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4: Rain threat looms large as KL Rahul, Karun Nair look to extend India’s lead

India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4: Day 3 of the second Test at Edgbaston belonged equally to pace and persistence, as Mohammed Siraj’s six-wicket haul put India in a dominant position despite a valiant fightback from England’s Jamie Smith and Harry Brook.

Siraj ignited India’s charge early, removing Joe Root and Ben Stokes in successive deliveries to leave England tottering at 84/5. But a record sixth-wicket partnership of 303 runs between Smith and Brook turned the tide temporarily.

Smith, in particular, was explosive – his 184* became the highest score by an England wicketkeeper in Tests, surpassing Alec Stewart’s 173. He reached his hundred before lunch in just 80 balls, a rare feat in modern Test cricket. Brook too contributed with a composed 158, before Akash Deep’s nip-backer bowled him with the second new ball.

England then collapsed, losing their last five wickets for 20 runs to end on 407. Siraj (6/70) and Deep (4/88) cleaned up the tail, handing India a crucial 180-run lead.

In response, India reached 64/1 by stumps, with KL Rahul and Karun Nair holding fort after Yashasvi Jaiswal fell to Josh Tongue. India now lead by 244 and will look to bat England out of the contest on Day 4.
