An emotional Mohammed Siraj on Monday opened up about the Lord’s heartbreak, where India lost the Test match by 22 runs. The last-wicket partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Siraj had raised India’s hopes. But Siraj was bowled despite connecting the ball with the middle of his bat.Siraj admitted it took a while to overcome the defeat.“It took a lot of time. Because that match was such that, in the last, in 2021 (at Lord’s), I took the last wicket (of James Anderson). Then, in such a situation, when I was there, I thought I could do it again… Kya hai na, main bahut emotional person hoon,” he told reporters at Old Trafford.

Lion-hearted Siraj also opened up about why he gives everything on the pitch every time he dons the Indian jersey.“Dekho, desh ke liye khelta hoon (I play for my country). I always give my 100 percent,” he said.“And since I do that, when I sleep at night, there should be that feeling inside that I gave my 100 percent… even if I didn’t get the result I wanted, it’s fine.”

    Poll

How do you feel about Mohammed Siraj’s emotional reaction to the recent loss at Lord’s?

When asked about his workload management, Siraj smiled and said: “Sir, upar wale ne mujhe itna sehat mand (fit, fine) rakha hai… touch wood! (The Almighty has kept me so healthy, touch wood). This workload is what science ke log (science people) write in books. My goal is simple – I want to play as many matches for my country as I can.”The fourth Test between India and England will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester, starting July 23.
