Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj has joined India’s squad for the remaining two Test matches of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The 24-year-old has been added as a cover for left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, who has a deep cut and has stitches on his bowling hand.“Anshul has left for Manchester and will join the squad for the remaining two Test matches as a cover,” a BCCI source told TimesofIndia.com.

Why Team India came to Manchester from London via train and walked in rain

The incident occurred when Arshdeep attempted to stop a shot from Sai Sudharsan during his follow-through in India’s practice session on Thursday.Although Arshdeep is yet to make his Test debut, he was being considered as a potential replacement if the team opted to rest a frontline pacer for the fourth Test in Manchester.India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate had also hinted that the team combination for the Old Trafford Test now hinges on the severity of Arshdeep’s injury.“We’ll take a call on the combination we play,” he said. “Particularly given the Arshdeep situation as well, we’ll make that call closer to Manchester,” he added. The fourth Test between India and England will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester, starting July 23.There are high chances that Anshul could also be in line for his debut with pacer Akash Deep, who also limped off during the Lord’s Test.Anshul was also part of the India A setup which played two three-day games last month. He took five wickets in the two games.Last season, the Karnal-born pacer created history after he became only the third cricketer after Bengal’s Premangsu Chatterjee (1956–57) and Rajasthan’s Pradeep Sundaram (1985–86) to take all ten wickets in an innings in the Ranji Trophy.Kamboj burst onto the scene when he took 17 wickets in ten games and helped Haryana lift the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2023. On the back of that performance, he bagged an IPL contract with Mumbai Indians and played three games. In IPL 2025, the Haryana seamer was part of the Chennai Super Kings outfit. After warming the bench in the early part of the season, he picked up eight wickets in as many games with an impressive economy rate of 8.00.
