India captain Shubman Gill’s outstanding performance helped his team gain a strong position in the second Test against England at Edgbaston on Thursday. Gill’s impressive 269 led India to a first-innings total of 587.At age 25 and in his second Test as captain, Gill broke several Indian batting records previously held by Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sunil Gavaskar.Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. The post carried a caption of: “Yes, Shubman Gill… you didn’t just lead — you ruled. From the heart of Punjab to the soul of Indian cricket, You’ve shown the world what royalty on the pitch looks like. Not just a captain — a force, a fire, a future written in gold. Crowns aren’t worn — they’re earned… and today, yours shined the brightest. The prince isn’t rising anymore — he has arrived. Punjab stands proud. India stands taller.”In the video Gill says on camera, “It is understood that in Test cricket if you get out early, you will have to sit out the entire day and you will achieve nothing. You can only score runs when you’re at the crease.”“From your own effort, you have to ensure not to play aerial shots and keep them grounded. But when I get loose deliveries, I do play them aerially.”“The main target is clear: to play for India.”India had lost the first Test at Headingley by five wickets despite centuries from several batsmen, including Gill’s 147.“I worked on a few things before the series as well, that I thought might be important for me going into Test cricket. Looking at the results, they are working for me.”

India’s total was the highest England had conceded under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum’s leadership, with England fielding for 151 overs.“Spending 151 overs in the dirt in any scenario is pretty tough. There’s some tired minds and tired bodies. Credit to Shubman for the way he’s batted over two days, it was a masterclass in how to bat on a good wicket,” said England assistant coach Jeetan Patel.
