India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja delivered an impressive performance with the bat on Day 2 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, scoring 89 runs from 137 balls. When asked about his captaincy aspirations during his 15-year career spanning three tours of England, Jadeja responded with humour.“No, that time is gone now,” Jadeja told reporters after the day’s play.Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. Following Jadeja’s dismissal, Gill continued his impressive form by establishing a 144-run partnership with Washington Sundar, putting further pressure on the tired English bowling attack.Joe Root dismissed Sundar for 42 runs off 103 balls, while Gill’s magnificent innings of 269 helped India post a formidable total of 587 runs.England’s response started poorly as Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj struck early, dismissing Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope for ducks, followed by Zak Crawley for 19 runs.Joe Root and Harry Brook steadied England’s innings with an unbeaten 52-run partnership, taking the score to 77/3 at stumps.“We are not thinking too far ahead. We will have to take 2-3 wickets before lunch tomorrow. If we do that, then we will definitely be ahead in the game. Results can be anything. There have been big partnerships in cricket in the past. We will not take the game too lightly. We were playing with energy today. Hopefully, we will get a good result in India’s favour,” Jadeja said, outlining India’s strategy for Day 3.
