I was having dinner and you guys stopped me in the middle to record this.” He added, “Once I’m done with my routine, that’s when I check my phone before bed – mainly to speak to my family and close friends.”

The message from his parents struck a deeper chord. His father said, “Shubman beta, well played. Aaj teri batting dekhke bahut maza aaya. Aur dil mein bahut shukun mila…bahut hi proud feel huwa.” His mother added, “Bahut achcha laga tumhari batting dekhkar. He and my best friend are the only two people I listen to when it comes to cricket.
