'Housefull 5’s ‘Qayamat’ singer Shruti Dhasmana opens up about women receiving unequal work in the music industry: ‘We do have sexism’

Singer Shruti Dhasmana is winning hearts with her melodious track ‘Qayamat’ from the comedy-thriller ‘Housefull 5’, starring Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, and more in key roles. She shared her experience of singing for Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s Citadel: Honey Bunny, describing the actress as a disciplined artiste. In a conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Shruti spoke about receiving an opportunity to be part of one of Bollywood’s leading franchises, Housefull. “It was a dream come true. Housefull 5 has been India’s biggest franchise. To be a part of something so big, so huge, and so massive — and to have your voice featured on such big stars — I think that’s a milestone,” she shared. On Samantha’s Strength and Screen PresenceShruti reflected on the praise surrounding Samantha’s performance in Citadel: Honey Bunny, after the actress herself admitted to facing health issues while shooting high-intensity action scenes.

The Madness is Real: Housefull 5 Cast Goes All Out!

“I have an absolute soft spot for all the South Indians, and I feel Samantha is one of those very disciplined artistes. Despite all the health issues she was going through, she was just so good on screen. When you see Citadel, you realise how amazing she was — the action and everything around it was so perfectly done. She is a star.”Breaking Industry MythsWith growing conversations around opportunities for outsiders in the entertainment industry, Shruti shared her personal perspective on the long-standing belief that success is out of reach for newcomers.According to her, anyone willing to put in a lot of hard work and effort can achieve great heights. She does not believe that outsiders are limited — “if they are passionate enough, no one can stop them,” she said.Addressing Sexism in the world of Music Touching upon an issue many women in the industry have spoken out about, Shruti acknowledged that sexism does exist in the world of music. “Every era will have something you may not like. It would be boring if there was nothing to fight for — I believe that’s true. We do have sexism. We do have situations where women may not receive the same amount or quality of work in the industry. But that’s what we’re fighting for — that’s the direction we’re moving in.”‘Housefull 5’, directed by Tarun Mansukhani, was released theatrically on June 6 to positive reviews from fans. The film also features Riteish Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Shreyas Talpade, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Dino Morea, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Chitrangada Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Soundarya Sharma, Chunky Pandey, Nikitin Dheer, and Johnny Lever in key roles.
