Akshay Kumar’s comedy franchise Housefull has once again delivered at the box office. The fifth installment in the series, Housefull 5, has officially entered the actor’s list of top 10 highest-grossing films, claiming the 9th position by surpassing the lifetime collection of his 2012 blockbuster Rowdy Rathore.In its eight-day run, Housefull 5 has managed to collect Rs 133.32 crore in India net collections, pushing Rowdy Rathore, which had earned Rs 133.25 crore, to the 10th spot on Akshay’s highest grossers list. The film opened to strong numbers, with Rs 24 crore coming in on its opening day, followed by an impressive jump over the weekend. It earned Rs 31 crore on Saturday and Rs 32.5 crore on Sunday, taking the opening weekend total to Rs 87.5 crore.The weekdays saw the usual drop but the film managed to stay steady. Monday saw collections of Rs 13 crore, followed by Rs 11.25 crore on Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday brought in Rs 8.5 crore and Rs 7 crore respectively, wrapping up the first week at Rs 127.25 crore. The film’s second Friday saw early estimates of Rs 6 crore, taking its total to Rs 133.32 crore.With this, Housefull 5 has now secured a place among Akshay Kumar’s most successful ventures. The top of the list continues to be dominated by Housefull 4, which holds the record for Akshay’s highest-grossing film with Rs 210.3 crore, followed by Good Newwz (Rs 205.09 crore), Mission Mangal (Rs 203.08 crore), Sooryavanshi (Rs 195.55 crore), and 2.0 (Rs 190.48 crore).Interestingly, the Housefull franchise remains a consistent box office performer for Akshay, with two of its installments now in his top 10. This not only speaks volumes about the brand value of the series but also reaffirms Akshay’s enduring appeal in the comedy genre.Housefull 5, directed by Tarun Mansukhani, brings together an ensemble cast of Fardeen Khan, Ritiesh Deshmukh, Abhishek A Bachchan, Sonam Bajwa, Jacqueline Fernandez and Nargis Fakhri along with its trademark slapstick humor the franchise is known for. While the film’s reviews have been mixed, the audience footfall over the weekend and steady weekday performance indicate its mass appeal.As the film continues its theatrical run, it will be interesting to see how much further it climbs. While entering the Rs 150 crore club would require consistent hold over the next week, for now, it can celebrate having edged past one of Akshay’s beloved hits, Rowdy Rathore, to become his ninth biggest hit to date.The film has an open run till the coming Friday which sees Aamir Khan returning to the big screen after Laal Singh Chadha. His latest release Sitaare Zameen Par is releasing on 20th June in about 3000 screens.
