Hema Malini was considering marrying Sanjeev Kumar, but he turned up in kurta pyjama slippers, says Aruna Irani: 'He would show up in any condition, wahan gadbad ho gayi'

Hema Malini tied the knot with Dharmendra but did you know that there were many other actors who were trying to woo her into marriage? One has heard about names like Jeetendra and Sanjeev Kumar who really wanted to marry the actress. In a recent interview, veteran actress Aruna Irani has revealed that Hema was really considering marrying Sanjeev. But here’s what happened!Irani revealed that Sanjeev was a great actor but she’s never seen anyone like him as he would just turn up in any condition anywhere. She said in an interview with Lehren, “Actor bohot acche the par maine aisa aadmni kahin nahi dekha joh kisi bhi haal mein aa jaaye. (I’ve never seen a man like him who would show up in any condition). She added, “He would show up in any condition. When we would go out… we were young, so we used to dress up a bit… but he never did.“She added, “Maine sunaa woh Hema ji se shadi karna chaah rahe the aur Hema ji se milne usi haalat mein chale gaye. Hema ji said..’Noooo’. Wahan sab gadbad ho gayi (I heard he wanted to marry Hema ji… and he went to meet her in that same unkempt condition. Hema ji said ‘No’… and that’s where everything went wrong).”Aruna added that Hema was really trying to consider his proposal and go ahead with it. She said, “Hema ji was really trying to go ahead with it… she was mustering the courage… but when she saw him like that, those slippers… that kurta, and that pyjama… there was absolutely no style.” She further added, “Ek toh waise bhi unki personality bilkul style ki nahi thi… aur kapde bhi waise pehne the… phir sab locha padh gaya. (To begin with, his personality wasn’t stylish at all… and the way he dressed just made things worse.)”Eventually, Sanjeev Kumar never married anyone. He passed away early at the age of 47.
