Don't risk your health this summer: 6 common mistakes could ruin your summer fun

Summer is here, and as the temperature rises, it becomes easy to get caught up in the hidden health risks. Even today, many people make mistakes that can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, or other serious problems. According to Yahoo Lifestyle, you should avoid these common mistakes to stay safe and healthy. From not applying sunscreen on time to working out in peak hours during summer, these mistakes should not be made this summer. In this article, we will explore six common hot weather health mistakes you should avoid to enjoy the season safely and comfortably.

6 mistakes that you should avoid this summer

Not applying sunscreen when you shouldOne of the most common mistakes by people during summers is not applying sunscreen at the right time before going outdoors as it is important to apply sunscreen 15 to 30 minutes before sun exposure because this allows the product to fully absorb into your skin and form a protective barrier against harmful UV rays. Thus, skipping this step can leave your skin to get sunburn, long-term damage, premature aging and can even lead to skin cancer. This means that making sunscreen a regular part of your skincare routine can help you to maintain a healthy skin.Skipping sunscreen touch-ups when you sweatIf you are sweating or swimming then always keep in mind to reapply sunscreen because these activities can break down the protective layer made by the sunscreen and it results in reducing the effectiveness of the sunscreen and leaves the skin exposed to harmful UV rays. So it is important to reapply sunscreen for proper protection of your skin because skipping these reapplications can even lead to sunburn, skin damage and even long-term issues like premature aging or skin cancer.Working out during peak heat hoursWhen you workout during the hottest part of the day then this can lead to serious health risks and it also increases the risk of heat exhaustion, dehydration and even severe cases like heat stroke. So, the best way to schedule workouts in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler can help in avoiding various health risks. Also, avoiding high heat periods also helps your body to perform safely and it reduces the risk of heat-related illnesses as well.Leaving your ears, eyelids and neck exposed to the sunIt’s essential to apply sunscreen to more sensitive areas like ears, eyelids and neck. These spots are often neglected but are exposed to harmful UV rays. The skin in these areas is thinner and more delicate which makes it even more vulnerable to sunburn and long-term damage and increases the risk of skin cancer too. Therefore,in order to safeguard your skin’s health you should make sure to protect these areas too when you are spending long hours outside of your house.Drinking only water to rehydrateOur body loses essential electrolytes along with water when we sweat during summers. Therefore, it becomes important to be hydrated all day as lack of hydration can make you feel fatigue, dizziness and can even cause muscle cramps. So it is important to stay well-hydrated throughout the day for better living. In addition to drinking water, including fluids in your diet in order to replenish electrolytes such as sports drinks, coconut water or oral rehydration solutions as it will help your body to maintain proper fluid and electrolyte balance during the heat exposure.Choosing light and flowy garmentsSynthetic materials can trap heat which can make you feel hotter when you sweat. It also increases the risk of overheating or skin irritation which can build a sense of discomfort. Therefore, it becomes very important to choose the right fabric in summers. You should opt for breathable fabrics such as cotton or linen because these fabrics allow air to circulate and help your body cool down. During summers, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothes that are made from natural materials to stay comfortable and it will support your body’s natural cooling process in hot weather. Also read: How does the human body maintains its temperature
