    Corey Adams, an 18‑year‑old freshman defensive end at Ole Miss, has died in a shooting on Saturday night. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office reported that he was found in a car with a gunshot wound. He was declared dead at the scene in Cordova, a neighborhood near Memphis, Tennessee. The tragic loss has left his family, friends, teammates, and the Ole Miss community heartbroken, as they now mourn a young life full of promise.

    The shooting took place at 10:14 p.m. local time on Saturday, July 19th, outside a home on Fern Glade Cove in Cordova, Tennessee. Deputies arrived at a nearby intersection, Forest Hill‑Irene and Walnut Grove, and stopped a car with Adams inside.He was suffering from a gunshot wound and later pronounced dead at the scene. Four other people, men in their late teens or early twenties, also suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to hospitals by private vehicles; none are in critical condition.Shelby County detectives have opened a homicide investigation. They discovered shell casings at the shooting site and are urging anyone with information to reach out to Crimestoppers.Corey Adams, from New Orleans, Louisiana, was 6‑foot‑5 and weighed 235 pounds. He played defensive end at Edna Karr High School and earned two-time first-team all-state honors. He was a three-star recruit in the 2025 class and ranked No. 609 nationally, No. 57 among edge rushers, and No. 21 in Louisiana.He committed to the University of Mississippi last summer, choosing Ole Miss over offers from LSU, TCU, USC, and others.     Edna Karr High School coach Bryce Brown said, “This is a tragic reminder of how precious life is, and how quickly it can be taken.” His former school team called him a leader who inspired others with hard work and a positive attitude.Ole Miss has not released an official statement yet, but a spokesperson from the football program said the team is “devastated” by the news. The Ole Miss football account tweeted:“We’re heartbroken by the passing of Corey Adams. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.”His football world is in mourning. Athlonsports said the college football community is feeling heartbreak over the loss of the rising freshman star.Corey Adams had so much ahead of him: studies, training, and a chance to shine in college football.
