Carlos Alcaraz Advances to French Open 2025 Final After Musetti Retires in Semifinal
Carlos Alcaraz is heading back to the French Open final after overcoming early setbacks to defeat Lorenzo Musetti in a dramatic semifinal match on Friday. Despite a slow start, Alcaraz rallied to win (4-6, 7-6, 6-0, 2-0) before Musetti was forced to retire with an apparent hamstring injury.
The win marks Alcaraz’s second consecutive trip to the Roland Garros final. The Spanish star claimed the French Open title in 2024, defeating Alexander Zverev, and now looks poised for a potential repeat.
Alcaraz Battles Back After Dropping First Set
Early in the match, Alcaraz struggled with his serve and net play, allowing Musetti to take the opening set 6-4. The second set was a tightly contested battle, with both players trading strong rallies. Alcaraz eventually prevailed in the tiebreak to level the match.
From there, momentum shifted decisively. Alcaraz delivered a flawless third set, winning 6-0 as Musetti began to show signs of physical distress. The Italian took a medical timeout and was seen receiving treatment for his left hamstring.
Musetti Injury Ends Match Early in Fourth Set
Down 2-0 in the fourth set, Musetti ultimately retired from the match, unable to continue due to the injury. His withdrawal sealed Alcaraz’s place in Sunday’s final, where he will face the winner of the highly anticipated clash between Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic.
Alcaraz Awaits Djokovic or Sinner in Final
The second men’s semifinal will take place later on Friday. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has been dominant at Roland Garros 2025, reaching the semifinals without dropping a single set. He defeated Alexander Bublik in the quarterfinals with a convincing 6-1, 7-5, 6-0 victory.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, continues to defy age at 38. After cruising through the early rounds, Djokovic overcame a tough challenge from Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals, coming from behind to win in four sets.
