Banita recalled facing harsh criticism early in her career and recounted one such experience in the South Indian film industry.Banita Sandhu about facing body shaming and trollsIn an interview with ANI, she shared that she was called “ugly” after doing a South Indian film. “I remember getting body-shamed when I did a South Indian movie. I remember people calling me ugly because I looked like a twig. And how could the co-star be attracted to me in the movie because I was so skinny,” she said. She found it bizarre, and the trolling on social media felt particularly strange to her, as she had grown up in a different environment with a different culture. The Sardar Udham actress was born and raised in Caerleon, Wales. “So I didn’t feel as closely offended or criticised by it. I was like, oh, okay, the beauty standard in this region is different from what I look like. And that’s just how I took it. I didn’t take it to heart, like, ‘Oh my God, I need to gain so much weight now.’ I’m naturally very skinny – you can literally ask any producer I’ve worked with; I eat the most on set,” she added.
