If you’ve got Instagram installed on an Android phone or tablet, you should update the app soon to fix some possible battery life issues with your device.
According to a statement on the Android community forums, Instagram has been causing battery drain issues on devices.
It reads, “Instagram is rolling out an updated app that should fix a battery drain issue on Android devices. Please make sure you have the latest version of the Instagram app (build 382.0.0.49.84) to resolve this issue.”
To update your app, head to the Google Play Store on your Android device, press on your profile picture in the top right, and then press Manage apps and device. Here you’ll see a section called Updates, which will tell you which apps on your device are awaiting an upgrade. Press Update on Instagram if you’re not running version 382.0.0.49.84.
If there’s no update waiting, that likely means the app have automatically updated. To check what version of the app you’re running, search for Instagram on the Play Store and head down to About this app on the listing. Scroll down to App info, and you’ll see a section called Version that tells you what you’re running, plus the date when it was last updated.
Google didn’t share why Instagram had been causing battery drain issues, and it’s not clear how long this has been a problem. There aren’t many reports online of people experiencing issues, but for Google to make a statement like this it must have had a clear impact on some users.
