AVOID! These 3 foods may secretly be ageing you faster

Eating often generates a direct link to your overall well-being; what you eat doesn’t just impact your health; it can also reflect on your skin, hair, and overall appearance. While a nutritious diet can help you look youthful and vibrant, some everyday foods may be secretly accelerating the ageing process. From promoting wrinkles to dulling your skin tone, certain ingredients can wreak havoc on your looks over time.Ageing is inevitable, but premature ageing caused by poor dietary choices is not. According to the post shared by neuroscientist Robert Love on Instagram, Fried foods, beer, and pizza may seem like occasional treats, but their compounding effects can make you feel and look years older than your actual age.Know what and how they may affect your body so you can make more informed choices and embrace a diet that supports vitality, longevity, and youthful energy.

Neuroscientist reveals foods that could be making you age faster

Neuroscientist Robert Love shared his views on how certain food items in your diet may accelerate the process of ageing and make you look older than you think. The ageing process is influenced not only by genetics and lifestyle but also significantly by the foods we consume. Certain commonly enjoyed foods particularly fried items, beer, and pizza may appear harmless or indulgent in moderation, but they carry a heavy cost on your skin, internal health, and biological age. Here’s a deeper look at how these foods can silently accelerate ageing. Eat smart to age slow!

Foods that may make you look older

Fried foods: Collagen killers and inflammation triggers

    Fried foods

Fried foods, such as French fries, fried chicken, and doughnuts, may be satisfying in the moment, but they have serious long-term consequences:

    • Breakdown of collagen: Collagen is the protein responsible for keeping your skin smooth, firm, and youthful. Fried foods often contain trans fats and advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) that accelerate the breakdown of collagen. This results in premature wrinkles, sagging skin, and a dull complexion.
    • Chronic inflammation: Deep-fried foods promote systemic inflammation. Inflammation doesn’t just affect your joints but it is a major factor in accelerating ageing contributing to conditions like cardiovascular disease, arthritis, and even cognitive decline.
    • Oxidative stress: These foods often involve re-used oils at high temperatures, producing free radicals that damage your cells, further ageing your skin and organs.

Beer: The ageing elixir you didn’t expect

Consumption of alcohol leads to impairment in brain health, affecting memory, cognitive sharpness, and emotional stability. While occasional alcohol consumption may seem harmless or even social, beer has unique properties that make it especially detrimental:

    • Promotes Inflammation: Alcohol, particularly in beer, stimulates the release of inflammatory cytokines. This inflammation doesn’t just damage internal organs but also externally as puffiness, redness, and accelerated skin ageing.
    • Harms the gut and brain health: Beer disrupts gut microbiota, the delicate ecosystem of bacteria that influence everything from your immune system to your mood. A compromised gut can lead to “leaky gut” syndrome, which promotes autoimmune diseases and systemic inflammation.
    • Disrupts sleep and hormones: Beer impacts your sleep cycle, especially REM sleep, which is essential for cellular repair and detoxification. Poor sleep accelerates skin ageing, increases cortisol (the stress hormone), and hampers your body’s ability to recover.
    • Gluten and belly fat: Beer contains wheat-derived gluten, which can be inflammatory for many and worsen conditions like bloating or joint pain. The high caloric and carbohydrate load promotes abdominal fat, making you appear older and increasing your risk of metabolic disease
    • Weight gain and bloating: Beer adds “empty calories” with no nutritional benefit, often leading to bloating and long-term weight gain, both of which contribute to a prematurely aged appearance and sluggish metabolism.

    Weight Gain

Pizza: A perfect storm of age-accelerating ingredients

    Pizza

Pizza may be a comfort food classic, but it combines several components that work together to accelerate ageing both internally and externally.

    • Gluten-heavy dough: Pizza dough made from refined white flour is high in gluten, which has been linked to increased risk of autoimmune diseases, especially as people approach their 50s and 60s. Gluten can trigger gut inflammation and digestive issues in sensitive individuals, even without celiac disease.
    • Cheese and salt overload: Cheese is high in saturated fats and salt. Excess salt causes water retention and dehydration at the cellular level, which shows up as puffiness and bags under the eyes. Cheese also contributes to clogged pores and acne, ageing the skin’s appearance.
    • Inflammation from processed ingredients: Processed meats (like pepperoni and sausage), synthetic flavorings, and preservatives all contribute to a heightened inflammatory response in the body. Chronic inflammation damages your joints (leading to arthritis), your skin (causing dullness and breakouts), and your energy levels.
    • Dehydration and sluggishness: The combination of sodium, grease, and carbs in pizza leaves the body dehydrated and lethargic. Dehydrated skin loses elasticity, looks tired, and forms wrinkles more easily.
    • Fat gain and hormonal disruption: Pizza is calorie-dense and nutrient-poor, leading to fat accumulation particularly visceral fat around the midsection which is linked to a variety of ageing-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and hormonal imbalance.
